What We Compare: LPG, Diesel, Furnace Oil and Sui Gas
A fair comparison looks at the cost of the heat your equipment uses, not just the price of a kilogram or a litre. We look at three things.
- This month’s prices. OGRA notifies the LPG price every month and published petroleum price notifications on five dates in October 2026; Sui gas sale prices are notified too. We use the current OGRA LPG price and your own bills, so a comparison holds for the prices of that day.
- The heat in each kilogram. Each fuel gives a different amount of heat for its weight, as the table shows.
- Your own equipment. How well your burners and boilers turn fuel into useful heat is what the site visit checks.
| Fuel | Heat per kilogram | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| LPG | 47.3 MJ | 44.8–52.2 MJ |
| Natural gas (Sui gas) | 48.0 MJ | 46.5–50.4 MJ |
| Diesel | 43.0 MJ | 41.4–43.3 MJ |
| Furnace oil | 40.4 MJ | 39.8–41.7 MJ |
A megajoule (MJ) is a unit of heat. Source: IPCC 2006 Guidelines, Volume 2, Chapter 1, Table 1.2 (net calorific values; furnace oil is listed as residual fuel oil). These are international defaults, so your fuel can differ a little.
Per kilogram, LPG gives more heat than diesel or furnace oil and about the same as natural gas. The price you pay for that heat decides your cost.
How the Energy Consultation Works
It takes four steps, and the decision at the end is yours.
- Tell us what you run. Call or WhatsApp us with the burners, boilers, ovens or machines you use and the fuel they burn. Share your recent fuel bills, or roughly how much fuel you use each month.
- We visit your site. We agree a time with you, by appointment, day or night. Our trained staff look at your burners, boilers and how much gas or fuel they use, and there is no charge for the visit.
- We compare the cost. We set this month’s LPG price beside what you pay now, allowing for the heat each fuel gives and how your equipment runs. We explain the result on the call or at the visit, with every figure we used.
- You decide. If LPG suits you, we set up the supply and fit the gas line to your burners and boilers. A specialist we bring in converts any burner or boiler that needs it; if LPG does not suit you, nothing changes.
Supply Set-Up Advice: Cylinders, Changeover Lines or a Bulk Tank
If you switch, the next question is how the gas reaches your burners without running out. We base our advice on how much you use.
- Cylinders: which size suits you (11.8, 15 or 45.4 kg), how many to keep and how often to refill them. See our cylinder sizes and refills.
- Busy kitchens: two or more cylinders on one line that switch over by themselves when one runs empty, with refills on a schedule. See LPG supply for restaurants and hotels.
- Factories and large sites: large orders of 45.4 kg cylinders, or a bulk tank that we supply, install and fill. See bulk LPG and tanks for factories.
Prices, Payment and What We Can’t Promise
We sell LPG, so this is not independent advice. That is why we show the prices and heat values behind every comparison: you can check them yourself.
We can’t promise a saving. Fuel prices change, and every site uses fuel in its own way, so a comparison holds only for the prices it was based on.
The comparison and the site visit cost nothing. If you then order LPG, we confirm the gas price, the delivery charge and any cylinder deposit first. Burner conversions and new gas lines are priced on request.
Pay in cash, through JazzCash or Easypaisa, or by bank transfer; cards are not taken. Google reviewers give Gas Link 4.9 out of 5 (14 reviews, seen on 3 November 2026).
More Help from Gas Link
- LPG pipework and installation: gas lines fitted, and Sui gas stoves and geysers changed to run on LPG.
- Gas safety checks and regulator fitting once your new supply is running.
- Our Main College Road shop, which never closes, for cylinders and accessories.
Energy Consultation Questions
Is LPG cheaper than diesel or furnace oil?
There is no single answer: it depends on that month’s prices and on how your burners and boilers use each fuel. LPG gives more heat per kilogram, but the cost of that heat decides it, so we work from your own bills.
Is LPG the same as Sui gas?
No. LPG is propane, butane or a mix of both, kept as a liquid under pressure in cylinders or tanks. Sui gas is natural gas that comes to you through the pipe network, and per kilogram the two give about the same heat.
Do you charge for the comparison or the visit?
No. The fuel cost comparison and the site visit cost nothing. If you switch, we confirm the price of the gas, any fitting work and the delivery charge before anything is done.
What should we have ready?
Your recent fuel bills, or roughly how much fuel you use each month, plus what it runs: burners, boilers or ovens. We explain the comparison on the call or at the visit.
Can you change our burners or boilers to LPG?
We supply the LPG and fit the gas line to your burners and boilers. If a burner or boiler needs converting, we bring in a specialist and confirm the cost with you before the work starts.
Does LPG give off less carbon dioxide than diesel?
Yes, for the same heat: IPCC default factors give 63.1 kg of carbon dioxide per gigajoule for LPG. Diesel gives 74.1 kg, furnace oil 77.4 kg and natural gas 56.1 kg; these are general figures, and we don’t offer emissions reports.
