Gas cylinder regulator supply, fitting and replacement
We supply, fit and replace the parts between your cylinder and your stove, then test them before we leave.
- New regulator fitted: we bring a regulator that matches your cylinder’s valve and connect it for you.
- Faulty regulator replaced: an old, damaged or leaking regulator is swapped for a new one during the visit.
- Hose replaced: a cracked, stiff or worn gas hose is changed and its clips are checked.
- Leak test: every joint gets a soapy-water test once the work is done.
- Gas too: running low? We can also arrange an LPG gas cylinder delivered within 2–4 hours.
Replacement parts are charged, so ask for today’s price when you call.
For restaurants and businesses
Restaurant, hotel and factory kitchens often run several cylinders on one line. You can book the same checks and replacements for every cylinder on site, at any hour. For new pipework or a new appliance connection, see LPG installation and pipework.
What our LPG safety check covers
A Gas Link safety check covers everything from the cylinder valve to the end of the hose. Our technician checks:
- Cylinder valve and washer: the valve top and its rubber O-ring or washer, which seals the regulator to the cylinder.
- Regulator: how it sits on the valve, how old it is and whether the on/off switch works properly.
- Hose and clips: cracks, stiffness, age and loose or missing clips.
- Every joint: a soapy-water leak test on the valve, regulator and hose connections.
- Repairs on the spot: a faulty regulator or hose is replaced during the visit (parts charged).
Book a check by phone or WhatsApp at any time, day or night.
Choosing the right regulator for your cylinder
The right gas cylinder regulator is the one made for your cylinder’s valve and your appliance. A gas regulator, LPG gas regulator or cylinder regulator does one job. It lowers the cylinder’s high pressure to the steady, low pressure a stove needs.
Types of gas cylinder regulator
| Type | How it attaches | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Clip-on (quick-connect) | Pushes onto the valve and clicks into place | Made for your valve size; never force it |
| Screwed (threaded) | Screws onto the valve, often with a left-hand thread | Right spanner; don’t over-tighten |
Each type suits a particular valve, so an LPG cylinder regulator from another cylinder may not fit yours. Check the date of manufacture marked on it and never buy one second-hand. Tell us your cylinder size and appliance and we’ll bring a regulator that matches.

How to fit, turn on and remove a clip-on regulator safely
You can fit a clip-on regulator yourself if it matches your valve. Follow these steps and your regulator maker’s instructions.
How to put a regulator on a gas cylinder
- Turn the regulator switch to OFF.
- Check the valve top is clean and its rubber washer or O-ring is in place and not torn.
- Hold the regulator over the valve and press down firmly until it clicks.
- If it doesn’t fit easily, stop. Never force a regulator onto a valve of the wrong size.
How to turn on a gas cylinder regulator and check for leaks
- Turn the switch to ON.
- Brush soapy water over the valve joint, the regulator and both ends of the hose.
- If bubbles form, there is a leak: turn the switch OFF and call us. Never use a flame to check.
How to remove a regulator from a gas cylinder
- Turn the regulator switch to OFF, and close the cylinder valve if it has a handwheel. Never remove a regulator while it is on.
- Press the release button and lift the regulator off the valve.
- Put the protective cap back on the cylinder valve.
Turn your regulator off at night and when you go away. Regulator won’t click on? Don’t force it: call +92 300 6140981.
Gas cylinder regulator problems: signs and what to do
Don’t try to fix a faulty gas cylinder regulator: replace it. Regulators are set by their maker, so gas cylinder regulator repair at home, such as opening or adjusting one, is not safe.
Signs your regulator or hose needs attention:
- A smell of gas near the regulator, or bubbles in the soapy-water test
- It won’t fit or won’t lock onto the valve
- The switch is stiff or needs force to turn
- Cracks, wear or damage on the regulator body
- A hose that is stiff, cracked, soft in places or blistered
Turn the regulator off, close the cylinder valve if it has one, and don’t use the cylinder until it has been checked. Our technician can bring a new regulator or hose and fit it on the spot, 24/7. Book a regulator replacement or WhatsApp us.
When to replace your regulator and gas hose
Replace a regulator when its maker says. If you don’t know, replace it within 10 years of the date of manufacture marked on it. Replace it sooner if it is worn, leaking or damaged.
| Part | Replace when | Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Regulator | At the end of the maker’s stated life, or 10 years from manufacture at the latest; sooner if worn, leaking or damaged | Liquid Gas UK |
| Rubber hose | Straight away if cut, cracked, stiff or blistered; consider a new hose after 5 years | Liquid Gas UK |
This is general guidance from Liquid Gas UK, the UK’s LPG trade body. Check your hose regularly, and book a check if you can’t find the date on your regulator.
If you smell gas
If you smell gas, put people first and act calmly.
- Don’t light a flame or smoke, and don’t switch lights or electrical things on or off.
- If it is safe, turn off your appliances, then the regulator or cylinder valve.
- Open doors and windows. LPG is heavier than air and collects near the floor.
- If the smell is strong or won’t go away, get everyone out and call Rescue 1122 on 1122 from outside.
- Then call Gas Link on +92 300 6140981 to make the cylinder and fittings safe.
Headaches, dizziness or nausea while a gas appliance is on? Turn it off and have it checked. These steps follow Liquid Gas UK’s safety advice.

Questions about gas cylinder regulators
Can a gas cylinder regulator be repaired?
No: a regulator is set by its maker, so never open, adjust or repair one at home. If it is worn, leaking or damaged, turn it off and call us. We bring a new regulator and fit it on the spot, day or night.
How often should I replace my regulator and gas hose?
Replace a regulator when its maker advises, or within 10 years of its date of manufacture if you don’t know. Check the hose regularly and replace it at once if it is cracked, stiff, blistered or leaking. Consider a new hose after 5 years.
How do I check my cylinder for a gas leak?
With the regulator switched on, brush soapy water over the valve joint, the regulator and both ends of the hose. If bubbles form, there is a leak: turn the regulator off and call us. Never use a flame to look for a leak; if the smell is strong, get everyone out and call Rescue 1122. Our guide on what to do in a gas leak has the full steps.
